One of the UK's most prominent cricket clubs, Surrey County
Cricket Club (SCCC), has given the Foundation of Goodness (FoG)
an incredible donation towards the Sports Academy.
In June 2005, Surrey organised a Tsunami Relief Match to raise
money for those affected by the disaster, with FoG fortunate to
be among the recipients of the money raised from this match.
This funding was enough to construct a proper cricket venue
called The Oval, Seenigama. The brand new cricket venue will
include a cricket ground, indoor nets, a 25m swimming pool (a
first for the area and one of few in the entire region!), a
gymnasium, change rooms, a club house and offices. The centre
will host a variety of sports and will encourage young athletes
of the villages and seven schools in the region to participate.
Construction of a state-of the-art artificial, all-weather
wicket is now completed, and was officially opened on the 8th
February 2007 with a star-studded 20/20 cricket match attended
by SCCC CEO Paul Sheldon.
The sports office, accommodation centre and Bryan Adams
sponsored swimming pool are also now open and in use by local
sports people as well as international visitors.
It’s expected that the entire Sports Academy will be completed
by late 2007.

The ground has also allowed the formation of the Seenigama
Cricket Club, made up of local players and volunteers. Their
enthusiasm for the game set the tone for what is sure to be the
home of many great matches.
