Pre-school concert lights up the stage in Seenigama

More than 30 pre-school children took to the stage for a gala end of year concert in the tsunami affected costal town of Seeigama, Sri Lanka.

In a charming display of dance, song and performance, children between three to five years old put their best foot forward – with the support of the Foundation of Goodness (FoG) and generous donors dedicated to the cause.

The audience of villagers, Foundation staff and sponsor delegates were treated to a well organised and entertaining show. The confidence and liveliness of the children was all the more moving given that, just two years earlier, their world was shaken by the tsunami disaster.

The children attend the Lahiru pre-school, a newly opened centre at FoG sponsored by Stafford International School, Colombo. They come from Seenigama, Udumulla, Malawenna and Werellana, and many face extreme poverty.

The pre-school, which is free of charge, aims to provide the children with a sound basis in English to help take them beyond the basic reading and writing that is taught in all schools.
Added to this unique approach is the cultivation of qualities and values that will encourage the children to approach life with kindness, compassion and consideration.

Guest of honour at the concert, Mrs Savithri Pethiyagoda of Stafford International School, commended the children for their efforts in making the event so memorable.

Watching the children perform left no doubt that the pre-school has nourished their budding talents, and given them the opportunity to blossom into bright, motivated pupils.

The students even made a moving tribute to long-time Foundation volunteer Niroshini Bodinagoda, who during her time with the organisation put so many hours into helping the pre-school run successfully.

With the pre-school looking forward to another successful year thanks to generous funding by Stafford International School, Seenigama and the surrounding villages are sure to have another performance to remember next Christmas.
