Despite facing poverty and hardship, the children
of the Seenigama region are just like any children around the globe
– playful, curious and ready to take on the world. If you would like
to help make sure they have the opportunity to prosper, you can make
a donation to one of the current needs listed below. At the
Foundation of Goodness, we make sure that whatever you donate makes
a real difference to a child’s life – and as extracts from the
donor’s letter below testifies, it is a rewarding experience to give
in this way.

Dear Friends
If you may recall, with your kind generosity, we sponsored 128
under-privilege school children in Sri Lanka last year by providing
them with essential school items under the patronage of Mr. Kushil
Gunasekera thru his charity “Foundation of Goodness.”
I was fortunate to witness the distribution of essential school
items on the 26th of December in Seenigama, with my family, two
other close friends and their families from Dubai. It was one of the
most satisfying and memorable occasions in my life.
One must see the smiling little faces to believe how happy they were
to receive brand new school items including new shoes. I can’t find
words to describe the feeling I got when I saw hundreds of them
waiting in a line under the hot sun to receive bags containing
essential items. In spite of hot and humid condition they never
forgot to kneel down and bowed when receiving the bags from the
sponsors.
I am sure that all of them would have got benefited immensely from
those items during the last academic year (read
this extraction from Kushil’s previous mail to know the importance
of these items for needy children in Sri Lanka –“ for
your information most of these kids do not wear shoes to school nor
a school bag and many of them write all 8 subjects in one book which
explains the levels of poverty in remote villages.”)
We all left Seenigama on that day after enjoying the hospitality of
staff of Foundation Goodness and the villagers with a satisfaction
that we were part of a genuine charity work.
…it is the children and the youth of these villages who get
benefited from his charity by getting proper education, computer &
technical training and sports etc.
After following Kushil’s work for last few years and meeting him
personally last year, I can assure you that his vision for the
people in his village and his dedication is something that all of us
must admire.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards
George

The Piyaratna Maha Vidyalaya has the distinction of being
the oldest Buddhist school in Sri-Lanka (1874), and once was
classified amongst the best schools in Galle. However, due
to neglect by authorities, the condition of the school is
now appalling with many buildings in terrible condition, and
bare minimum facilities being available to the students.
The school though being very close to the coastline, has
been spared physical damage from the Tsunami. However,

Ratnasara Maha Vidyalaya is a school in Kahawa, which caters
to about 540 children from Grades 1 to 12. The school is
situated along the Southern coastline of Sri-Lanka in an
area which was most hit by the tsunami.
The school is located on two sides of a main village road,
with lab facilities etc being on one side of the road and
the main school building on the other
The school was damaged by the tsunami, and its front parapet
wall was totally destroyed. This has since been rebuilt by a
well wisher
The school has now requested assistance for the following:
a) To build the balance three sides of the parapet wall-
(where the main buildings are located). Without the parapet
wall, the security of the children is compromised, as well
as the faculty finds it very difficult to discipline the
children.
